Negotiations between the club and me do not take long. First I am offered a 4 year contract worth £525,000 per year, but I negotiate down the number of years. This isn’t so I can quickly jump out if things go wrong, but as a safety precaution in case I and the club do not suit well together – or if management is too difficult. They agree and offer me £675,000 per year until 30/06/2011, with promise of an extension in March if everything goes well. Ajax Chairman, Uri Coronel and I shake hands and the job is mine.
AFC Ajax
Founded in 1900, AFC Ajax are a professional team in the Eredivise in Holland. The Amsterdam ArenA is a top stadium and the club boast excellent facilities. A fierce rivalry with Feyenoord Rotterdam, which I will ensure to win so fans, will support me. During the 1990’s Ajax was its most successful both domestically and in European competitions; however in recent times the club has struggled against bigger clubs in Spain, England and Germany – it shall be my mission to ensure this club returns to the centrefold of European Football.

Team Report
One of the club’s assistant managers has put together a team report for me. He reports that the team does have a strong squad that should challenge for the title I seek to win and that we have good depth. However, he does note we are weakest in defence – something I will be addressing immediately. There are also transfer rumours for our star striker Luis Suarez, who we must keep hold of if we are to win the league and make an impact in Europe.
Also, on my first day, the chairman Uri Coronel has assured me if I require, he’ll pay for any unwanted members of staff contracts to be terminated so I can bring in my own team. Looking through my Backroom staff, with 2 assistants, 2 coaches, 2 goalkeeping specialists, 2 fitness coaches and 16 youth coaches – I can already see where cuts must be made! Also, with all staff being from Holland, I will be looking to bring in some British coaches for support. With 8 scouts as well, all paid over £1,500 a week, I will be cutting down their numbers and replacing them with young, more diverse, scouts.
